Steve LongSteve Long is an International Mountain Guide and currently the Chief Officer for Mountain Leader Training UK, the co-ordinating body for all mountain training schemes in the UK. In this role he oversees the training and assessment of around 6,000 leaders, instructors and guides and represents the UK internationally in matters related to mountain training.

 

Steve is a mountaineer with over 30 years' experience and a founding member of the Association of Moutaineering Instructors (AMI). He has also worked for 14 years at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre for England and Wales, as a trainer and assessor on all of the British instructional qualifications.

 

With a particular passion for rock climbing and over 25 years of experience on big walls, Steve has also become one of Britain’s foremost rock climbing coaches and has directed courses up to the highest levels.

 

A talented writer and film maker Steve is the author of the best-selling MLTUK handbook ‘Hillwalking’ and the maker of the highly acclaimed films ‘Trango’ and ‘Self Rescue for Climbers’ In addition to directing his own projects Steve is equally at home managing safety on film shoots and behind a camera. His work on the 2005 “Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie” was a huge success.

 

Expeditions have included 3 trips to Lowe's Gully in Borneo, an attempt on Great Trango Tower in 2001, work in Spitsbergen and the Antarctic, an unseasonal ascent of the Yukon's Lotus Flower Tower and an ascent of Cerro Torre in Patagonia in 2005.
