_______________

I’ll be heading north to the Fisherfields on Sunday, in anticipation of the snow that’s going to fall on the strong north-westerlies over the weekend. I’ve an image of An Teallach that I’ve been pursing for many years which has alluded me and which I am determined to finally capture this year.

Scotland’s Wild Places

An Teallach, for me, sums up everything about the appeal of the Scottish mountains in winter and it’s the personal challenge that they throw out at you – tempting you to test your tenacity. Unlike mountaineers, my dreams differ slightly and whilst they may dream about standing on the summit, mine is to place myself in a specific location to take advantage of an event that’s yet to happen – I’m essentially tapping into my knowledge and experience in an attempt to achieve a specific result – essentially to capture an image which has been etched in my mind for many years. In many ways, it’s tapping into the same skillsets as our ancestors did when they were hunting and this is what makes the hunt so exciting. Even a polar bear knows better than to sit in one place and wait for a meal to arrive. What we all share in common is that success rarely happens by accident.
