Ultrafleece

Wind resistant, exceptionally durable, warm and moisture repellent Ultrafleece is a hugely versatile fleece. Before the advent of modern soft shell clothing, Ultrafleece was a mainstay of the Mountain Equipment and was for decades, finding its way onto many of the world’s hardest routes. Now some 30 years after its original introduction, Ultrafleece has made a return. Trends are once again changing and lightweight, exceptionally breathable and exceptionally durable mid-layers are once again in vogue. And whilst there may be some rose-tinted fondness for a retro fleece of yesteryear it is this product’s durability and low-shedding pile qualities that make this a product built for today. Made from the same UK manufactured 185g warp-knit fleece which helped define the very original Ultrafleece, it affords exceptional abrasion resistance, impressive wind resistance and rapid drying.  Warp-knitted means that the yarns zig-zag along the length of the fabric, as opposed to across it; this results in incredible durability with very little in the way of loose fibres. This latter benefit also ensures that in a world where microfiber pollution is now seen as a serious concern, Ultrafleece has minimal fibre shedding and certainly far less than conventionally knitted fleece. Its durability and low shedding means it can genuinely be seen as a more environmentally considerate option.
