Our PACT fabrics have been painstakingly developed over the course of three years. Having searched everywhere for our perfect backpack fabric – minimum weight, maximum durability, weather resistant, pliable, weldable – we failed to find it; so then began the long journey of ground-up development to make the best fabric that we could. After numerous iterations and offerings that weren’t quite good enough we now work with two different factories: one is a specialist in making technical yarns and weaving them, while the other is an expert in coating and finishing. Without working with two factories we would not be able to get the fabric that we want.

We use two fabrics in our packs: PACT 330 and PACT 110. PACT refers to PolyAmide, Coated, Tenacious. Both fabrics use high tenacity nylon 6,6 yarns in a double ripstop pattern to create an exceptionally strong and durable material. The weave is very dense to increase puncture resistance and the double ripstop prevents small holes propagating. The fabrics are DWR face-coated for water resistance and snow-shedding, and an air and water impermeable 25 micron TPU coating is applied on their inside. The PACT 330 uses 330 denier yarns and is used in the main body of the Tupilak packs; it is double thickness on the base. The 110 denier yarns of the PACT 110 are used in select areas of the Tupilaks and an uncoated version of this fabric is also used as a lining fabric.

These fabrics aren’t the very toughest of all possible pack fabrics and they aren’t the very lightest. However, they offer an exceptional blend of these two criteria to result in exceptionally tough, strong, and weatherproof fabrics which weigh much less than most other pack fabrics. For Alpine climbing, mountaineering, and the Mountain Equipment world, they’re close to perfect.
